MozBackup Portable

MozBackup Portable is a handy and reliable application that can perform quick backups of user profiles for a variety of Mozilla applications. It relies on a step-by-step wizard that will guide you through the whole process.

The program can also be used to restore a profile to a previous backup, all from the same interface. It is easy to use, intuitive and works with the latest versions of any Mozilla product.

We’ve tested it with Thunderbird and Firefox and proved to be faster and more effective than any other dedicated solution we’ve tried so far.

It is built as a portable replica of MozBackup, with the exact feature set and the added benefit of allowing you to carry it on a removable drive and launch it on any computer without requiring installation.

In the first step of the wizard, you are asked to exit all Mozilla programs that are associated with the profiles you want to backup, following which you are required to pick the type of operation to be performed: backup or restore.

The program automatically identifies the Mozilla apps installed on your system, however, it allows you to carry out the task for portable installations as well. If you opt for a backup operation, the next screen allows you to select the profile you want to process, as well as to create a new profile.

Then, you are offered an option to password protect the file, which we encourage you to do, especially if you have a lot of personal data under it. Next, you can select the areas to be backed up: settings, emails, address books, bookmarks, history, sidebars, user styles, extensions, saved passwords, cookies, certificates and cache.

This is also the final step, after which the actual backup operation begins. The results are saved to My Documents section automatically, with no option to select the destination yourself.

On an ending note, MozBackup Portable comes across as a very reliable backup solution for products issued by Mozilla. It can work with programs installed on the system, as well as with portable editions.
