WackGet Portable

This is a portable version of WackGet, a simplistic download manager that quickly retrieves online content in a user-friendly environment.

It comprises intuitive options which are accessible to all types of users, even the ones with little or no experience in download managers.

Since there is no setup pack involved, you can extract the program files to any part of the hard disk and run the executable directly.

Another option is to save a copy of WackGet to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.

What's more, the program does not add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, thus leaving no tracks behind after its removal.

The user-friendly GUI is represented by a basic window with a minimalistic layout, where you can add a new item to the task list by pasting the URL.

Shown details include the name, status, progress and speed for each file. It is possible to rearrange items in the list to prioritize downloading jobs, pause, remove or re-queue tasks, use force when downloading items, as well as copy URLs to the Clipboard.

The queue can be saved to file and later resumed by importing it. As far as program preferences are concerned, you can change the default saving directory, ask the tool to resume or overwrite existing items, keep or delete unfinished items (or prompt the user for an action), automatically clear completed downloads, and log all downloaded files.

It is also possible to associate WackGet with WGQ files, set a hotkey for toggling the app, integrate it into Internet Explorer for immediate downloads, use proxies, as well as to hide various elements from the main frame, such as the menu bar, status bar and grid lines.

The application quickly retrieves files while remaining light on the system resources. We have not encountered any unpleasant surprises throughout our evaluation, as it did not hang, crash or display error dialogs.

Although it is not feature-rich, WackGet offers a straightforward solution to downloading files rapidly without worrying about complex app configurations.
