WhoDat Portable

Made by a third-party developer, this is a portable version of WhoDat, a straightforward software application whose purpose is to provide Whois information on a particular website.

It does not contain complex settings or configuration parameters, making it accessible to all types of users, even the ones with little or no experience in networking utilities.

As there is no installation involved, you can extract the program files to a custom location on the hard disk and just click the executable to run.

Another possibility is to save a copy of WhoDat to a USB flash disk or other mass storage device, to be able to run the tool on any PC with minimum effort and without installing anything beforehand.

An important factor to consider is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not receive new entries, so no traces are left behind after WhoDat's removal.

The interface doesn't stand out in the visual department. However, this is normal, considering the technical nature of the app. The main frame has an minimalistic look, letting users immediately dive into the whole process.

All you have to do is write a website address and click the "Search" button or hit the Enter key to start the scanning procedure.

The host's Whois information is listed in the main window, and you can either make a text selection to copy to the Clipboard, or save all data to a plain text document by specifying the output directory and file name. Apart from the fact that hotkeys are supported, there are no other notable features provided by this tool.

WhoDat does not put a strain on PC performance, since it runs on light CPU and RAM. No error messages were revealed throughout our testing, and the app did not hang or crash. Although it may take a while to complete scanning, the tool serves its purpose. Too bad it does not integrate additional settings, like a search function.
