Automatic Volume Mixer

Automatic Volume Mixer is a handy, little tool that allows you to automate and enhance Windows Volume Mixer's functionality based on custom sets of user-defined rules.

This makes the app ideal for, let's say, muting an app when a notification is playing, pausing various audio players whenever there's a system or app notification, lowering or raising the volume based on the specific time of day, and even tweaking particular apps' volume to predefined levels.

It's also worth noting that this is a portable application which means that you don't have to install it and that once configured, you can easily take it without on the go on any flash drive or similar storage device.

Before you get started, we would like to say that (even though it's not an extremely complicated app) this is definitely the type of utility that requires a bit of getting used to.

Taking this into consideration, if you're not an advanced user, it might be a good idea to install the Foobar2000 audio player and use the provided configuration example to learn the basics (Import -> Foobar Example.xml)

Once launched, the app smoothly integrates with your computer's taskbar. Click the "Open event manager" option from the taskbar menu to summon the app's main window. This is the place from where you can import or export your configurations, view all audio sessions and variables, access the Settings section, but most importantly, it's the place where you can add new events or edit/manage already existing ones.

The Event Editor is probably the app's most interesting section, as it allows you to define various triggers, conditions, actions and other similar parameters. It's also worth pointing out that you can configure the app to automatically start on system boot or to automatically reset the settings of running audio sessions on exit.

All things considered, Automatic Volume Mixer is undoubtedly a handy application, even though it's mostly aimed at advanced users who require more sophisticated features that the basic Windows Volume Mixer is capable of delivering straight out of the box.
