WinRadioTray

If you want to listen to an online radio station, you normally have to either use your browser or rely on a media player that supports this feature. Of course, a specialized radio player may be better suited for your needs.

WinRadioTray is one such application, designed to function as a system tray player for online radio stations. It can be controlled from a single context menu, making it a great choice for users who prefer unobtrusive software.

A simple menu will be displayed when clicking on the tray icon, and the first submenu lists all your radio stations organized by genre. Quite a few are included by default, and you can add more or organize them differently.

To start listening, simply select one of the available stations. Playback can be controlled either with the menu buttons or using multimedia keys. However, it would have been great if users had the option or starting and stopping playback by clicking the tray icon.

While a fair number of stations are already included, these may not exactly be to your taste. Fortunately, you can remove any or all of them and replace them with what you prefer.

You don’t have to the stick to the same organizational scheme. Stations are sorted by genre by default, but you can create groups based on any other criteria.

One of the advantages of using WinRadioTray is that the program does not require installation. All data is stored in the application folder, so you can even carry it around on a portable storage device.

Since it lacks a classic UI, the program also does a good job of staying out of your way. However, it would be nice if global hotkeys were available for managing playback and selecting radio stations.

Overall, WinRadioTray is a very good choice for users who listen to online radio stations. The UI is a bit outdated, and the application does need a couple of improvements, but it will make it much easier to listen to your music while also remaining unobtrusive.
