Image Splitter for Discord

You can create emotes for Discord quite easily, but you can only upload images up to 128x128 px in size, which will themselves be resized to 32x32 before being displayed in chat. If you want to make an emote using a larger image, the size limitation can be an issue.

Image Splitter is a relatively simple, open-source utility that lets you split a picture into any number of smaller squares, which can be loaded into chat at once in order to display a larger image. It even supports GIFs, but it lacks a bit of polish.

To begin with, you will need to launch “ImageSplitter.Winfroms.exe”, and make sure the other two executable files are in the same folder as well. Then, load any still image or GIF you wish to process and select the output location.

Next, set the size, in pixels, of each square that will be generated. You can see a preview before processing the image, and you have the option of downscaling the pictures to 128px, the maximum emote size supported by Discord.

The program even creates an “emotes.txt” file which you can use to paste them into Discord chat quickly.

If you have loaded a GIF animation, you need to tick the “Enable GIF support” box and set the delay between frames, which essentially determines the GIF’s framerate.

To make the output images easier to organize, you can also add a prefix and suffix, which also ensures they won’t overwrite other files.

The user interface is rudimentary at best, and it would be great if it were possible to calculate the ideal square size based on the column or row count. Thankfully, this feature is planned for a future release.
