Portable Pinta

Made as the portable edition of Pinta, this is an advanced graphical editing application that emulates Paint.NET, providing you with an extensive range of drawing tools and configuration settings for working with images of various file types, namely PNG, BMP, ICO, JPEG, TIFF, TGA and OpenRaster ORA.

Provided that you have Gtk# installed on your PC, you don't need to set up anything else. This means that you can extract the program files anywhere on the disk and just click the executable to launch Pinta.

Otherwise, you can save it to a USB flash drive to run it on any PC effortlessly. An important aspect worth noting is that, unlike most installers, it doesn't modify the Windows registry configuration.

The user-friendly interface is filled with rich options waiting to be discovered. You can either open an existing file or create a new one by selecting the size, orientation and background type (white or transparent).

Several drawing tools are put at your disposal, such as rectangle, ellipse and Lasso selection, zoom, magic wand, paint bucket, gradient, paintbrush, eraser, pencil, color picker, clone stamp, recolor, line, and line/curve.

Multiple layers are supported and you can delete, duplicate, merge, rotate or flip them, as well as adjust their opacity level (e.g. watermarks). Pinta features Clipboard history too, so you can review your steps and undo any mistakes.

It's possible to capture the screen and place the image in the main app window for editing, set the number of colors in the palette, change the measurement unit, enter full screen mode, flip, rotate, resize or flatten the picture, apply automatic crop or crop to selection, and alter the canvas size.

Pinta supports a wide range of options when it comes to tweaking and enhancing pictures. For example, it can automatically adjust the color levels to optimized settings. Alternatively, you can make the photo to black and white or sepia, manually tweak the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, curves and levels, or invert colors.

As far as effects are concerned, you can apply posterize, oil painting, ink or pencil sketch, blur (e.g. Gaussian, motion, radial, unfocus), bulge, frosted glass, pixelate, polar inversion, tile reflection, twist, noise, fractal, clouds, and others.

CPU and RAM consumption was minimal in our tests, and image adjustments were swiftly applied. The app didn't hang, crash or prompt error dialogs. Given its resemblance to Paint.NET as well as approachable graphic editing options, Pinta should meet the requirements of many users.
