Portable WiMPlay

Designed as the portable edition of WiMPlay, this is an all-around multimedia player that contains a lot of advanced features for experienced users. For example, it can load media content from URLs, modify image settings, and delay subtitles. It represents an MPlayer distribution, integrating a wide range of codecs and encoders.

The main advantage of the portable version is that it keeps all its configuration settings in a single place, and this directory can be created anywhere on the hard drive or on a removable storage unit to seamlessly launch WiMPlay on any computer without previous setups.

It's wrapped in a user-friendly interface that resembles Media Player Classic. WiMPlay offers extensive support for media file types when it comes to audio tracks (e.g. MP3, OGG, WAV), video clips (e.g. AVI, MPG, MOV) and playlists (M3U, M3U8, PLS).

Media content can be loaded from single files or entire directories, playlists, DVD from drive or folder, VCD, audio CD, or website links. Basic controls are available, enabling you to seek a particular position within the stream, adjust the volume, increase or decrease playback speed, enter full-screen mode, and so on.

As far as video options are concerned, you can switch to another screen, change the aspect ratio, enable deinterlacing (e.g. lowpass5, linear blend), rotate, flip or mirror the image, take screenshots, as well as equalize parameters concerning the contrast, brightness, hue, saturation, and gamma. Filters are available for post-processing, autodetect phase, denoise, deblock, dering, add noise or black borders, and software scaling.

Audio tracks can be loaded from external files to implement into the video. You can modify the sound channel, adjust the equalizer, set delay times, and fiddle with filters for extra stereo, karaoke, or volume normalization.

Likewise, subtitles can be loaded from external files. The supported extensions include SRT, SUB, SSA, IDX, and TXT. It's possible to set delay times, increase or decrease the font size, enable closed captions or forced subtitles only, make them invisible, as well as look up subtitles on OpenSubtitles.org automatically.

It worked smoothly in our tests, without freezing, crashing or prompting error messages. CPU and RAM usage was reasonable. When it comes down to it, Portable WiMPlay provides you with a rich set of options and configuration settings to enjoy multimedia content. It's free and open source.
