Portable ImmersEd

Portable ImmersEd is a simplistic piece of software that is designed to provide you with a distraction-free writing environment, a few basic text editing tools and sounds effects that emulate those produced by the very much loved typewriters from the past.

First things first, as you may have already guessed, this is a portable application which means you can take it with you everywhere you go on small storage devices and run it from any computer without installation.

Upon fist launching the utility, you are met by a stripped-down user interface with only a writing panel and a menu bar. Despite its minimalist look, Portable ImmersEd packs a light collection of very useful features for writers, such as live spell-checking via Hunspell and basic Markup text editing functions.

The app allows you to use self-folding notes, which enable you to store large quantities of text within a compact label. Portable ImmersEd offers you the possibility to customize the way it looks, so you can easily work in both dark and well-lit environments.

By far the 'coolest' thing about this application is its small collection of sound themes that offer you audio feedback when typing. The selection of sounds emulate the most popular manual and electric typewriters, as well as the legendary IBM Model M keyboard.

It is quite clear that Portable ImmersEd is not a top notch text editor as it does not pack the features, the looks and neither the popularity to even compete with the top contenders out there. But comparing it to others, more powerful, text editors would be to miss the point of this app completely.

While it can't deliver the same visceral experience specific to writing using a typewriter, Portable ImmersEd at least enables you to carry it with you everywhere you go and provides you with a simple writing environment.

Considering its typewriter sound effects, Portable ImmersEd might be exactly what some writers are looking for, apart from inspiration, of course.
