Qwerty - Notepad Portable

Qwerty - Notepad Portable is a simple text editing tool whose essential feature is represented by a text-to-speech function. It doesn't have a comprehensive set of roles like other word processing applications out there, but it offers a speedy solution for reading text aloud for presentations, for example.

After the brief loading screen at startup, the app reveals a rectangular window with a minimalistic and familiar appearance, which reminds us of Windows Notepad. Unlike Notepad, however, it comes packed with a smaller collection of options.

It's possible to type or paste text into the panel, cut, copy, paste, delete and select all text, or undo and redo actions. You can open an existing .txt document, clear all content with one click to restart the task from scratch, as well as save modifications by overwriting the original file or by creating a new one after establishing the saving directory and file name.

The text-to-speech feature is triggered with one click and doesn't have any customization properties. A robotic male voice starts reading the displayed text from top to bottom. It would've been practical to implement a female voice as well, in addition to adjustment options for the reading speed, volume level, pausing or restarting speech.

The program's not entirely portable, as its name says because it's not standalone. Instead, you must have .NET Framework installed. Aside from this aspect, it doesn't update the system registry with new entries or generate files on the disk without your permission. It's only necessary to delete its file to perform a complete uninstallation.

Qwerty - Notepad Portable has plenty of shortcomings, due to the lack of richer options and personalization properties. On the other hand, it's lightweight and has minimal impact on system performance, delivering a simple and efficient text-to-speech tool.
