X-Evince

Various specialized document types, such as PDF, require the installation of particular applications in order to be viewed, which can be a pain since these most of the time use a lot of system resources. Luckily, X-Evince provides a practical and less CPU hungry solution to opening such kind of documents.

The first thing you might want to do when running the application is hitting the “Open” button. This inevitably brings up a browser window which features a search engine to quickly open up desired files, and even gives you the possibility to add specific folders as favorites.

Every file you choose to view opens up in a new window, thus giving you the option to work with multiple documents at a time. Even though you have access to some of the most commonly used file types besides PDF, it would have been useful as an image viewer, but no integrated support for basic photo formats is provided.

By default, the main window is fitted with little buttons in the toolbar. However, opening the integrated editor, you find out where all of them are hiding. Each button can easily be added on the toolbar by dragging it in the desired spot, with the possibility to add separators to cleverly create groups.

Amongst them are all of the basic view functions. Buttons for scrolling through pages, zoom and rotation options, a search engine to easily find key words, as well as options to enter fullscreen and a presentation mode.

To sum it up, X-Evince offers an easy way to view specialized document types with little system resources used. The slightly customizable user friendly interface provides a suitable space to view anything of need or interest. It manages to live up to expectations making for a practical utility.
