XML Copy Editor Portable

This is the portable edition of XML Copy Editor - a straightforward piece of software that, as the name implies, lets you edit XML files.

As installation is not an issue, you can simply save the program files anywhere to the hard drive and run the EXE item immediately.

Alternatively, you can move XML Copy Editor to a USB flash drive or other similar unit, in order to run it on any computer with minimum effort.

An important aspect is that the Windows Registry section does not get entry updates, and files do not remain on the hard drive after removing the tool.

The interface of XML Copy Editor includes a layout similar to the one of a standard word processing program, like Notepad. It supports syntax highlighting and allows users to edit code on the spot.

Opening XML, HTML, DTD, XSD, RNG or XSL items is done with the help of either the file browser or "drag and drop" method. You may view the current elements, insert a new one, sibling or entity through separate panes, as well as view warning labels on the bottom part of the screen.

XML Copy Editor provides standard text editing functions, such as Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy and Paste, along with a search tool. You can fold tags, wrap words, change the color scheme and text size, insert symbols, validate XML code, evaluate the XPath, lock tags, and choose the encoding method.

Several settings can be configured from the Options panel, For example, you can alter the default application and browser directories, choose another UI language, enable network access for DTD validation, as well as set the tool to remember the layout on exit and to retain the Undo history on save.

XML Copy Editor uses a light amount of CPU and system memory, has a good response time, and works well, without making the OS hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. We have not come across any problems in our tests. There is also a help file available. On the downside, XML Copy Editor has not been updated for a while.
