F.lux Portable

This is a portable counterpart of f.lux, a simple-to-use software application that can automatically adjust the monitor's brightness to the day/night setting. It does not include complex features or customization options, making it ideal for all types of users.

As there is no installation involved, you can extract the program files to any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run.

Another option it to save F.lux Portable to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.

An important factor to keep in mind is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and there are no files left behind after the tool's removal.

At startup, F.lux Portable creates an icon in the system tray area and immediately becomes active. Users may preview the evolution of the monitor color adjustment over the course of 24 hours (from sunrise to sunset).

It is possible to tweak lighting settings for the day and night when it comes to halogen, fluorescent and daylight levels, as well as to change the location and transition speed. Moreover, F.lux Portable can be disabled for one hour.

The tool is undemanding when it comes to CPU and RAM, so it does not hog system resources. Since it sits quietly in the system tray area, it does not interfere with the runtime of other active processes either, becoming non-intrusive. We have not come across any kind of issues throughout our evaluation, as F.lux Portable did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs.

In a nutshell, this tool proposes a simple method for protecting eyesight when working endless hours on the computer, by adjusting the monitor's brightness to the current time of day.
