XProtect

An encryption utility can go a long way toward helping you keep your files secure, but many of these applications make everything a lot more complicated than it should be.

XProtect, however, simplifies the encryption/decryption process and features a modern, novice-friendly user interface. Moreover, it allows you to create self-decrypting files that can be extracted anywhere, even if this application is not available.

The program enables you to encrypt each item separately or combine all of them into a single file; when extracted, the files will retain their original names. To import new items, you can either use the “Add Files” button or simply drop them onto the main window.

When you encrypt the loaded files separately, the application displays a confirmation message that shows the duration of the job in milliseconds. This feature is quite puzzling, and the confirmation dialog is not triggered when using the other encryption modes.

If you select the Portable method, the imported files will be packed into a single executable, together with a small decryption utility.

You can take the EXE file with you anywhere you go and decrypt it easily at any time, without having to use XProtect or any other software.

It is worth pointing out that the application does not need to be installed on your PC. It is distributed as a single executable file, which can be run from any location, including portable drives.

On the whole, XProtect is a great encryption program for users who want to secure their files but prefer to keep things simple. It offers several encryption modes, and it also allows you to create self-decrypting executables, which contain one or more files and can be extracted without the need for any other software.
