Lain is a very small, portable piece of software that can help you manage your account credentials and generate secure, random passwords. It is a relatively simple program, but it can get the job done.

Once you have set your master password, you can begin adding new accounts to the database. The process is very straightforward, and you can enter the account name, password and additional notes.

When you wish to access your stored information, you can expand any of the entries and copy the data to the clipboard. If you wish, the program can ask for your master password whenever you open any account.

Naturally, a password manager allows you to use more complex passkeys, and Lain comes with a simple generator that can help you create them when adding a new account.

However, the password generator is rudimentary at best. You cannot choose which types of characters should be used or change the password’s length, as these parameters are fixed.

Lain is a decent choice for users who need a basic password manager, especially if they prefer to stay away from the more popular alternatives. It is a small program that does the job quite well, and it has the added advantage of being fully portable.

However, it features a UI layout that is not quite as intuitive as we would have liked, and the included password generator needs to be improved.
