Keep different account credentials for online and offline content in a database protected with a custom password, a built-in key generator and more #Password manager #Manage passwords #Password encryption #Password #Encrypt #Management
Sooner or later every website you end up frequently visiting requires some form of registration, which eventually forces you to remember yet another password. It can become a burden but there are various specialized applications like X-Gorilla which can be used to store credentials for different accounts for more comfort.
For starters, the application is the portable edition of Password Gorilla, which is a major advantage considering you can literally take all credentials with you. This also makes you worry less about the health status of your PC, with registries remaining intact and little pressure put on resources.
One of the first steps is to create a database secured with a password. This enables multiple users to store credentials through different databases. However, the first impression still manages to leave a little more to be desired because of the poor visual design and display.
All accounts are shown in a tree view, with poor representations. Little info is displayed other than the account and user name, in different colors, but with no options to change them. In terms of hierarchy and structure, you work with custom groups and sub-branches.
The creation screen is pretty shallow too. New groups can be created on the spot by filling in the name field, with following requirements for title, URL in case it's online, username, password and additional notes in a text field.
A little flexibility saves the situation, with a built-in password generator you can use in the creation process. In can be used to create custom security keys, with the possibility to override password policies and manually specify length, letter casing, whether or not to use normal or hex digits, as well as symbols and easy to read characters.
There are a few more general settings to manage, such as the password policy used to set default generator settings like the ones previously mentioned, as well as functions to automatically lock the dashboard after a custom amount of time. It's also possible to export the list to either CSV or TXT, or simply as an application supported database.
All things considered, we come to the conclusion that X-Gorilla is a pretty lightweight and straightforward password manager that, although pretty rough on flexibility, somehow manages to provide the necessary utilities to keep different account credentials safe in a basic and simple manner. Portability is a major plus, making it worth at least a try in the end.
