X-Password Safe

X-Password Safe is a software utility whose purpose is to help individuals store passkeys for all their accounts, as well as manage them and randomly generate new ones.

You are not required to go through the installation process, as this is the portable counterpart of Password Safe. This also means that, unlike uninstallers, it is not going to add new items to the Windows registry and hard drive without your permission, and no leftovers will remain after its removal.

Another important aspect is that if you move the program files to an external data device, you make it possible to take it everywhere with you and run it on any PC you come in contact with, by simply clicking the EXE.

The interface you come by presents a simple and quite well-organized build, as it encloses a menu bar, several buttons and a pane in which to list all added information. The latter is displayed along with details such as title, username, notes, URL, e-mail, password policy and last modified date.

This tool enables you to import and export data using a PSAFE3, DAT, TXT or XML format, and you should know you can add an unlimited number of entries, with a custom double-click action, keyboard shortcut, expiry date and password policy.

The latter enables you to choose whether or not to use lowercase and uppercase letters, digits and symbols, use only easy-to-read characters and generate pronounceable passkeys.

Moreover, it is possible to compare, merge or synchronize two databases, use a search feature, copy passwords to the Clipboard or clear it, as well as create a backup, so as to prevent sudden data loss.

To sum up, X-Password Safe is a pretty handy piece of software when it comes to managing and generating passkeys. Although the interface is not particularly appealing, it is intuitive, the response time is good and the import and export capabilities are somewhat impressive.
