Back up drives or entire disks by compiling all information into raw images byte by byte, start the copy at the HDD's end, as well as view any read and write errors. #Copy disk #Raw image #Transfer data #Copy #Transfer #Recovery
Designed as a no-installation counterpart of Roadkil's RawCopy, Roadkil's RawCopy Portable is a security tool designed to clone the contents from one drive and create a raw image which can be copied to an external hard disk.
This is a backup measure to prepare for the worst case scenario when you accidentally lose data due to a heavy malware infection, inexplicable system crash, or other unpleasant events. The application is quite easy to use, even if you're not skilled with backup utilities.
Since it's not wrapped in a setup package, you can save the downloaded .exe file anywhere on the hard drive or copy it to a USB flash disk, in order to seamlessly launch Roadkil's RawCopy Portable on any of your computers. No Windows registry settings are modified.
The straightforward interface made from a small window that lists the handful of options supplied by the software program enables you to immediately proceed with the configuration.
All you have to do is indicate the source and target drive by selecting their letters from a drop-down list, which also shows their storage capacity. Just make sure the target's size is as least as large as the source, otherwise you will encounter errors. Alternatively, you can copy entire physical disks.
Disk information is processed in raw mode, which means that all files are copied byte by byte. RawCopy can also be instructed to start the copy operation at the disk's end. On task completion, you can check out the number of read and write errors (if any). The result is represented by a raw image file which can be mounted to a disk using specialized software products.
It may take a while to finish a task, depending on the size of your drives, but it was speedy in our tests. To conclude, Roadkil's RawCopy Portable offers a straightforward solution for anyone who wants to back up their drives or entire disks by compiling raw images to copy them on other devices.
