Toucan

Toucan is a portable tool developed for file synchronization, backup and encryption.

As installation is not a prerequisite, you can extract the program files to any location on the disk and run the executable. It is also possible to move Toucan to a removable drive to run it on any machine with minimum effort.

It's important to keep in mind that the Windows registry is not updated with new entries, and leftovers are not kept on the hard drive after program removal.

The interface is simple and well-organized. You can create multiple jobs, set up rules with inclusions or exclusions (files, folders, absolute folder exclusion), and configure settings for each module.

When synchronizing data between two locations, you can establish the primary function (copy, mirror, equalizer, move, clean), verify file properties (size, modified time, short and full comparison), as well as retain timestamps and attributes, ignore read-only files, use the Recycle Bin, and preview only changes.

For backup jobs you can specify the type (complete, update, differential, mirror, restore), backup format (ZIP, 7Z, GZIP) and compression level, set a password, verify the archive after creation, and enable solid mode.

Encrypting and decrypting files from a specific job is easily done. You can create a list with variable directories, create and run scripts, enable Toucan to remember entered information for the sync, backup and secure jobs, select another UI language and tab style, as well as customize the font.

Toucan is extremely light on the system resources, using a barely noticeable amount of CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and carries out a task rapidly and without error. The tool did not hang or crash in our evaluation. Thanks to its intuitive layout, user-friendly features and advanced options, Toucan should please all types of users.
