Organize your files more efficiently in a dual-pane explorer with quick access to bookmarks, built-in launcher, and extra tools to rename, encrypt files, or convert pictures #File manager #File organizer #File commander #Organize #Organizer #Manager
Windows makes it easy and comfortable to perform basic file operations through its File Explorer and all context menu functions. However, there are also tons of alternatives out there you can use to completely replace the need for File Explorer. For instance, Portable Alt Commander offers dual-pane browsing, and extra tools for renaming, or finding files.
First of all, the application can be your personal file explorer because no setup is required, so it can perfectly fit on a thumb drive and run from there. Apart from a great deal of flexibility, the application also makes sure the target PC remains intact and stability is not affected, because it doesn’t need to make any changes to system registry entries.
The visual design relies on basic window elements and frames to store all features. This simplicity makes accommodation a lot easier, especially since there are an abundance of functions organized in different toolbars and sections. The navigator itself is split into two panes for easy interaction between multiple folders.
Basic file operations like viewing, editing, copying, renaming, or deleting are all fitted with hotkey commands, and are also at a mouse click away for quick access. Copying can also be done through drag and drop between panes, or through selection of multiple items from different locations, and triggering the necessary action.
Bookmarks can be configured so you easily land in favorite locations, but the application also comes with launcher to instantly launch important tools or files. Built-in search retrieves items of interest in the blink of an eye.
The application comes with a bunch of extra tools for more flexibility. It can pack files inside an archive, rename according to a variety of filters including a counter, encrypt with the Vigenere64 algorithm, or convert pictures to popular formats.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Portable Alt Commander is a practical alternative to the default File Explorer, but it doesn’t completely replace it. The visual design is simple, but intuitive, while the variety of functions and extra tools make the whole experience comfortable.
