Portable Splitter Light

Splitter Light is an application that enables you to seamlessly split files into smaller parts to be able to spread them across multiple devices and transfer them to other PCs. It also has a feature for reconstructing the original items.

The entire program's packed in just one .exe file that can be saved anywhere on the disk or copied a removable storage device, in order to easily run it on any computer without setup.

It doesn't change system registry settings, create files on the HDD without your permission, or need DLLs or other components to work properly. In order to uninstall it, you simply have to delete the executable.

The interface is slightly unusual, based on an elliptically shaped window that reveals all options put at your disposal.

In order to cut a file into multiple parts, you can point it out using the file browser, specify the destination directory, as well as establish the size of each volume by picking a predefined value from the drop-down menu or by entering a custom value in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes.

You can ask Splitter Light to create a copy of itself and place it in the output directory to be able to merge the pieces back together on another machine, or to create a batch file for joining the items by simply double-clicking on it.

The merger operation is pretty clear, since all you have to do is indicate the first part of the file and make sure all remaining pieces exist in the same folder. The program takes care of the rest.

It didn't put a strain on the machine's performance in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a minimal amount of system resources to work properly. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't hang or crash.

On the other hand, Splitter Light doesn't support additional file splitting methods, such as by defining the number of parts. We are also keeping in mind that it hasn't received updates for a long time.
