If you use multiple keyboard layouts on a daily basis, it is not uncommon to write something and then realize that the wrong layout was selected. Typing it all again is a hassle, but it may be possible to save yourself the effort.

Keyboard Layout Switch is a nifty software utility that enables you to convert any text from one keyboard layout to another with a simple hotkey. It allows you to create custom character mappings, and it runs silently in the background.

Selecting a different keyboard layout is easy enough even without this program, but anything you have already written normally needs to be typed again. With this application, however, you can just copy it to the clipboard, use hotkeys to select a different layout, and then just paste the converted text.

The default global hotkeys are fully customizable, and they enable you to cycle between the available layouts until you find the correct one.

Upon launch, the program imports the list of input languages from your system, and they are displayed in the Settings window in the same order. Bear in mind that you will have to restart the app if a new layout is added.

The imported keyboard layouts can be customized freely, should you wish to change the default character mappings and add new ones.

While Keyboard Layout Switch does not need to be installed and stores no data outside the program directory, it does create a Start Menu shortcut and startup folders for the current user. However, these can be removed easily from the Preferences menu.

The application is very unobtrusive, as you can just leave it running in the background after you have performed the initial configurations. Of course, you can always access it from the system tray whenever you wish to change something.
