BatteryCat Portable

BatteryCat Portable is a lightweight and simple-to-use tool that lets you keep track of your notebook battery's status. It features just a couple of configuration settings which are easy to figure out.

Since there is no installation involved, you can extract the program files to any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run, as well as make a copy of BatteryCat and save it to a removable storage unit, in order to monitor the battery status of any laptop you come across.

Worth taking into account is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not receive new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk, leaving it clean after removal.

The interface is represented by a plain window with a neatly organized structure. It is obvious that BatteryCat does not put emphasis on the visual appeal. You can view the current and maximum battery charge, current and original battery capacity, together with the battery charge cycles, charger plugged status, and current charging status.

It is possible to take a snapshot of the current date and battery capacity and record it to a history window that you can view at a later time and even compare information.

As far as program settings are concerned, you can set a custom battery capacity and polling interval, as well as set the tool to write the status in the window title to spot it easier. There are no other notable options available here.

CPU and RAM consumption is low during this app's runtime. It shows accurate information on screen. However, it crashed once in our tests when we attempted to access the options panel, and the tool doesn't have a good response time (it takes a while to notice when the charger was plugged or unplugged). Other than that, BatteryCat serves its purpose and can be used by anyone.
