Portable Diskitude

General disk space info is provided by default in File Explorer, or in greater detail in the Properties panel. However, it’s pretty difficult to analyze folders with the features found in Windows. Luckily, there are tons of specialized applications like Portable Diskitude which provide a neat representation of folders and files based on size.

Just as the name clearly points out, this edition of Diskitude saves you the whole effort of going through a setup process, and can thus be easily carried around on a thumb drive to use it on any computer you need. Runtime doesn’t put a strain on the target PC or stability, mostly because registry entries remain intact.

There are several ways in which to analyze a folder. On the one hand, running the application brings up a folder browser, which is a pretty simple method. On the other hand, dropping a folder over the executable does the trick. You can also assign a hotkey command to the program’s shortcut to launch it from any location.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take a lot of time to have the target location scanned, and even entire partitions are quickly indexed. Even if it does take a little to build the structure, this is neatly done in real time, with the preview chart building as folders and files are analyzed.

Folders are displayed in a pie chart you can interact with. Highlighting sections shows the size, name, and path of the corresponding folder, and you can even navigate back and forth with the mouse. Specific folders can be opened in File Explorer as well. Sadly, you can’t pan, zoom, or export a picture of the structure.

To sum it up, Portable Diskitude is sure to come in handy if you suddenly end up with a cluttered computer. Analysis of folders is quickly done, even for large drives, with the chart building up as files are scanned. You can interact with each section, view related details, and brought up in File Explorer for more management options.
