CandyCrush

CandyCrush is not what one might think at first sight. This lightweight tool is a C# recursion trainer, if it can be referred to as such. Why CandyCrush though? The name is simply suggestive of the practice model. You get to move colored squares around in order to simulate the recursion process but in a more abstract manner. A pseudo-game is more of an accurate description for this utility, as the user does not have to deal with code, and the recursion is simulated in a colorful and fun way.

"Recursion is explained by a function that calls itself," or at least that's what the dictionary says. A better example would be replacing the function with an item placed between two facing mirrors, making it reflect recursively. The same principle is applied by CandyCrush, but there are no mirrors involved.

The interface uses colored squares placed in more or less random patterns. Clicking a square will propagate its color, simulating a function's recursiveness, or its ability to infinitely repeat. Of course, users who choose this program as training, or showcasing must have the necessary knowledge about C# in order to understand the patterns.

Before starting the simulation, choose a color from the right side of the UI. That color will replace any other in the pattern. The program also tracks the moves it takes to complete the pattern. Restart at any time by clicking the yellow button.

Given these points, CandyCrush is a neat tool that lets you understand C# function recursion, but from a more practical perspective. It can easily be deployed to teach "rookies" about recursion, but it can also help programmers better understand how this principle works.
