JSON/XML Editor

JSON and XML files are types of documents used for storing and transporting data objects with a tree-like structure. Often used in programming and software development, these two formats store information in attribute-value pairs that are both human-readable and machine-readable. Both files can be opened even with the ever-popular Notepad in Windows, but browsing their contents and editing it is much easier with a dedicated tool such as the JSON/XML Editor.

As its name implies, this lightweight application is designed to help you browse XML and JSON files in a user-friendly GUI, while preserving their original tree-like structure. The developer’s idea is to provide a basic software tool that requires no prior knowledge, while allowing programmers and software developers to work with JSON and XML files easier.

First, you can use JSON/XML Editor as a file reader. The attributes in the opened JSON or XML document are displayed in the left-side panel, while the right-side panel is used for revealing the associated values for each attribute.

Exploring the structure of the document is one thing, but keep in mind that, as per its name, the JSON/XML Editor also allows you to make changes to the document. It is possible to create new objects, arrays or attributes, or rename and delete existing ones. The value fields are editable, allowing you to change both the value and the variable type. All the changes can be saved with the click of a button from the “File” menu.

Creating a new JSON or XML document from scratch is also possible. Starting at the root, you start building the tree-like structure with new objects, values of different types and attributes.

With an extremely intuitive layout and a minimalistic set of options, the JSON/XML Editor provides a convenient way to open and modify both JSON and XML files. You can create new such documents from scratch by working with objects, arrays, values and attributes, even if you don’t have any prior experience about file specifications. Moreover, you can use it as a converter between XML and JSON and vice versa, since you can save any document in both formats.
