Create 9-patch images that autoresize to fit any Android UI screen using this Java-based tool that lets you pick the density (dpi) #Nine patch resizer #Ninepatch resizer #Android image resizer #9patch #Ninepatch #Resizer
9-patch files are bitmap images that get resized automatically to fit the dimension of any Android UI device. If you're a developer who wishes to create auto-resizable photos for their projects, you can use 9Patch Resizer.
This is a simple Windows application that requires no installation, designed to create 9-patch files in bulk. It supports several density formats for the output, allowing you to pick the preferred one.
The main app window has a simple look and layout, where you can drag and drop multiple selected files (PNG or JPG) from your file manager to include in the task (or use the integrated file browser on double-click).
In the following step, you can pick the input and output density from xxxhdpi (640dpi), xxhdpi (480 dpi), xhdpi (320 dpi), hdpi (240 dpi), tvdpi (approximately 213 dpi), mdpi (160 dpi) and ldpi (120 dpi).
Worth noting is that multiple densities can be chosen for the output. In this case, 9Patch Resizer creates distinct folders by density, putting all new graphic files there. Also, settings must be made before adding the files because the resizing done is performed automatically.
The source files are not affected, so there's no need to make backups before using this program. You can skip the density selection and just let the program preserve the original density of the items. It's not possible to change the default output directory (same as input).
The software utility resized images swiftly in our tests while remaining light on system resources usage. We haven't experienced any compatibility issues with Windows 10.
Since 9Patch Resizer doesn't need installation, you can keep it stored in your collection of portable software and run it whenever you need to create 9-patch resizable images for Android in a hurry. It worked in command-line mode too.
In future releases, the developer plans on implemented a settings panel to manage JPEG compression and others.
