Granted, users rely on many different types of tools to assist them with performing various tasks on their computer. While some of them are not exactly what you would call user-friendly, the truth is that they enable advanced users to get tasks done faster and more convenient. We're talking about terminals of course!

In case you are not too happy with the Standard Command Line or PowerShell, then the good news is that there numerous alternatives out there. Promptkey is one replacement for the traditional Windows terminals that might be worth checking out. The tool may come in handy for anyone who cannot switch to Linux completely and that feel the traditional terminals could use more options.

Although the program requires installation, you should know that it is much lighter than the standard consoles, including PowerShell and PowerShell Core. In fact, the program itself solely has a few MB once installed.

In terms of commands recognized, the tool allows you to do a wide variety of tasks, including, but not limited to modifying file extension associations, comparing the contents of various sets of files, creating new directories or displaying the file system properties. Other noteworthy commands include replacing and renaming files, copying files and folder trees, creating Symbolic and Hard links, suspending processes, displaying the directory structure of a drive or path graphically or showing the WMI information inside interactive command shells, just to name a few.

It is important to note that the developer has included a command that enables you to do modifications to the program's code. If you would like to change anything with the program so that you can transform it into something that better suits your needs and preferences, then you should use the prket.bat command located in the Promptkey's Files directory.
