Improve your workflow and take interaction with your code to higher levels using this open-source version control platform with a sleek interface #Version control #Code collaboration #Workflow automation #Code #Collaboration #Git
If you have ever felt the need for an intuitively designed program meant to ease real-time collaboration on coding projects when working with Git ecosystem, then look no further than Sturdy’s snappy version control platform.
Thanks to its clean layout, team-interaction-oriented design and open-source license, the application makes sure all collaborators’ voices are heard.
The software features a distraction-free layout right from the get-go, with the homepage showcasing the codebases and their current status, while the Settings tab lets you update your organization’s name and invite collaborators who use the Sturdy platform.
The left side lists the codebases’ drafts, through which team members can visualize in real-time all of the changes made to the source code without having to rely on the command line or other organizing methods that only take valuable time away.
While the app supports its very own cloud synchronization server provided by the developer, and a server can also be self-hosted if necessary, where it excels the most is in its integration with GitHub. Projects can be imported in bulk or individually and remain interconnected, receiving updates from either platform.
Comments can be easily added to any line of code and all changes are listed neatly in the Activity tab on the right side of the application window, with the possibility of quickly replying to any of the changes made to the entirety of the project.
By targeting incremental and frequent updates instead of larger and fewer releases, Sturdy makes it fairly easy to try out other people’s draft codes, which can then be instantly updated and sent to that person as suggestions to be later applied with a single click.
One caveat many users might face when interacting with this app is the lack of a dark mode or theming system to go in line with the rest of the operating system, making nighttime use more difficult without activating a blue light filter.
With an ever-growing Discord community and career opportunities thanks to funding provided by Y Combinator, Sturdy claims to replace Git with cloud-based real-time collaboration through its straightforward version control platform focused on quick and painless code testing, updating and giving feedback without any hassle.
