TXM

The resource features multiple complementary functions grouped together under several tabs. New users should find the program quite accessible, as all the qualitative and quantitative analysis tools are kept well away from users' eyes. If the GUI becomes cluttered with too many tabs, users are free to close some of them and a “Close all” command allows one to quickly clear the interface.

TXM can work with several types of input sources, including TXTs, CSVs and XMLs. One can even load entire folders, and the tool will discard any invalid files. Once an input source has been defined, the resource automatically builds a TXM file, which will be the starting point for all future analyses.

The ability to load entire documents in a single database is an important feature since it allows one to batch process numerous files with a few mouse clicks. Once loaded, users are free to perform a variety of qualitative and quantitative analyses.

To provide these functions, the application relies on CQP and R packages, respectively. On the side of qualitative analyses, one can generate kwic concordances, as well as word pattern frequency lists and progression graphics. With regards to quantitative results, users can employ the powerful R suite to generate factorial correspondence and cluster analyses.

One of the great features of this software is the ability to load each analysis in a separate tab. While, as mentioned before, this has the potential to clutter the interface, it is also a valuable setup, because it allows one to selectively export analyses. Standard textual results can be exported to CSV or XML files, while progression graphs are saved as SVG documents.
