Terminal++

The Command Prompt and Terminal-related tools are not exactly popular among typical, day-to-day users. However, for a developer, the command line is sort of a Bible since it provides greater control over system functions, and that’s really just the start of it.

Of course, each OS has its own unique command line utility: CMD in the case of Windows, Terminal for both Linux and macOS. That said, those developers or users who want to experience the same features on all OSes can make use of various good cross-platform terminal emulators out there.

One of these utilities goes by the name of Terminal++. It works on Windows 10 and Linux, and, according to its developer, it’s on par regarding the speed with most other emulators of this sort out there.

Even though it looks rather simple (for example, there’s no support for multiple tabs), it does have various useful features. One noteworthy feature is the ConPTY Bypass, a special pseudo-console for Windows that allows users to use WSL and bypass the OS’ default ConPTY. This allows the app to support all terminal-specific features such as mouse movements and special escape sequences.

Terminal++ also supports all possible colors and even has native fallback for extra characters. It supports double width and double size characters. The bi-directional clipboard is also something that developers can appreciate. The font zoom levels can also be adjusted by using the CTRL+ and CTRL- keyboard shortcuts.

Last but not least, it’s worth noting that Terminal++ allows developers to open files from remote servers that the utility is connected to. This can be done via the “ropen” command, and it also supports tmux passthrough.

Terminal++ is a rather competent cross-browser command line emulator that promises to offer users and developers a few very useful features.
