Filter Wiz PRO

Filter Wiz PRO is a professional CAD program designed specifically to work as an active filter designer for low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and band-stop filters.

The GUI is clean so most of the operations can be easily tweaked. Plus, there’s support for a step-by-step approach that you need to follow in order to finish with designing filters.

The wizard-like mode is suitable especially for rookies as it guides throughout the configuration process while still leaving them the option to go back to the previous step and revise some of the dedicated parameters.

Data can be imported from design files, such as FP2, FP3, FP4 or FP5.

You can start with selecting the type of filter that you want to generate, namely low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, band-stop, or a user-defined one. Depending on the type of filter that you want to create, you may tweak several parameters.

For example, if you opt for designing a low-pass one, you can alter the filter specifications. You can choose the frequency unit, enter the maximum pass-band ripple, choose the pass-band and stop-band frequency values, and add the overall gain, and check out a graph.

There’s support for several filter approximation parameters that help you pick the response type (magnitude, step, impulse, poles/zeroes) and work with a detailed graph which can be exported to BMP or EMF file format.

You can pick the cascading strategy by selecting the first and second stage preferences, select the circuits, and work with a simulation window for monitoring the actual versus ideal gain. You may activate the automatic cascading mode.

What’s more, you can select the actual circuits implemented for each stage, automatically calculate the resistor and capacitor values, analyze the simulated response curves (voltage, phase, delay) for each stage or whole filter, as well as view the final circuit.

Other notable features worth being mentioned give you the possibility to alter resistors, capacitors and operational amplifier gain bandwidth and tolerance, preview the gain response when selecting circuits for each stage, and export design as eSketch file.

Filter Wiz PRO comes with a powerful suite of features and configuration settings for helping you design filters. If you feel the professional version may be too much for you, you can download the Lite edition but you should take into consideration that it doesn’t offer support for internal simulator, MCP approximations, user-defined filter stages, configurable pole-zero pairing and stage cascading, Monte Carlo analysis, bill of materials, and other power options.
