The Avast Decryption Tool for Prometheus allows you to unlock files that have been a victim of a Prometheus ransomware attack without having to pay the ransom or risk data loss.
The Prometheus ransomware is written in C# and inherits a lot of code from another malware strain called Thanos. Various processes are killed and tools that are designed for debugging, or PE files analysis are blocked, so that the threat is not easily discovered.
This ransomware strain uses the Chacha20 or AES-256 algorithms to lock files, while also encrypting the key with RSA-2048. Encrypted files are given a new extension, the most common one being “.unlock” or “.secure”. A ransom note is displayed in Notepad, which opens a file called “UNLOCK_FILES_INFO.txt” containing information about how to pay the ransom and instructions on how to get the files decrypted.
Created by one of the most reputable security companies, the Avast Decryption Tool for Prometheus allows you to unlock files without having to pay a dime to cybercriminals. It comes as a wizard-based tool that provides step-by-step instructions on how to unlock all the files.
First, you must select the local or network drives, or the folders that you want the application to analyze. There are two ways to unlock decrypted files and choosing one depends on whether you know the encryption password or not. In case the password is not known, then Avast Decryption Tool for Prometheus requires you to provide a pair of files to be able to crack it. It needs both an encrypted file and its original counterpart, which you can get either from a previously created backup, and email folder, or a Windows directory.
Whether you know the file password or not, it is advisable you use a dedicated decryption tool created by a well-known security company to make sure your data is safe. The Avast Decryption Tool for Prometheus promises to unlock encrypted files, provided you have an encrypted file and the original, non-encrypted file. This way, you can find the password and then unlock all your other files, regardless of whether you have a backup for them or not.
