The Troldesh ransomware took over the Internet ever since 2016, targeting victims from all around the world. Also known as Shade or Encoder.858, this ransomware encrypts files on the infected computer, attaching them strange extensions, changes the desktop background to display a warning and creates a ransom message on the desktop, in different languages.
At the end of April 2020, the authors decided to publish the decryption keys to the public. Evidently, trusting cyber-criminals is a bit risky, so Avast created a dedicated decryption software tool specifically designed to unlock files that were encrypted by the aforementioned malware.
The Avast Decryption Tool for Troldesh is a handy tool that allows you to decrypt files that were locked in case of an infection with Troldesh (Shade). The application requires no setup and, as soon as you launch it, the wizard-based interface is displayed.
The first step after the welcome window allows you to select the location to analyze. The application displays all the connected drives automatically, but you can also add local and network drives or particular folders to the list. Drag and drop also works and shortcut keys are displayed to make it easier for you to insert or delete locations.
Next, Avast Decryption Tool for Troldesh prompts you to choose whether to backup the encrypted files or not. This is highly recommended, as you can never know when something might go wrong.
You are also advised to run the decryption process as an administrator, provided you own the rights to do so. The administrative privileges allow the application to have access to all the encrypted files to try to grant you access to them.
Created by one of the biggest cybersecurity companies out there, the Avast Decryption Tool for Troldesh helps you get back access to the files that were encrypted by the Troldesh / Shade ransomware. You can search for the decryption keys online, but using a tool created by a security company is safer and easier.
