UserAssistView

UserAssistView is a tiny and portable tool made to help advanced PC users examine information about frequently accessed executable files and links. It features some basic options and offers to export information to file.

Since installation is not a requirement, the app can be run from any location on the hard disk by just accessing its executable file. This rule also applies when saving it to a removable storage device (like a pen drive), in order to run it on any PC without installing anything beforehand.

The best part about portable apps is that they do not modify Windows registry entries. In the case of UserAssistView, it does not even create extra files on the HDD without the user's consent.

The main app window has a neatly organized layout, loading a list of frequently used items at startup. It reveals their index number, count, last date of modification, and class ID in the registry.

Any selected entry can be copied to the Clipboard, while the entire list can be exported to TXT, CSV, HTML (horizontal or vertical) or XML format for closer examination. A search function is available to help users identify specific items when dealing with large amounts of data. Plus, the modification stamp can be shown in GMT instead of local time.

The tool has minimal impact on PC performance and a great response time, and remained stable throughout our evaluation. It may look outdated but it does its job quite well and does not require assistance when decrypting UserAssistView entries.
