WhatHash

WhatHash is a straightforward piece of software designed to identify the checksum type of any alphanumerical value you specify, as long as it's valid. It works with MD5, SHA1, SHA256, SHA512 and CRC32, among others.

The tool comes in handy for those who frequently work with hash tools. These represent unique signatures of files and can be used to verify file integrity, for example when checking for incomplete downloads.

Provided that you have .NET Framework installed on your computer, you don't need to set up anything else. The whole program consists of a single executable file that can be saved anywhere on the disk or copied to a removable storage unit, in order to directly launch it on any computer with as little effort as possible. It doesn't add new entries to the system registry or create files on the disk without your permission. To get rid of it, you just have to delete this .exe object.

As far as the interface is concerned, WhatHash adopts a small window with a simple design and layout, where all you have to do is type or paste the string of characters made from numbers and letters, as well as click a button to find out the hash type. It's shown in the bottom part of the window. There are no other noteworthy options provided by this piece of kit.

The program performed as expected in our tests, without causing the operating system to hang, crash or prompt error messages. It left a small footprint on system resources, as it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly.

On the other hand, WhatHash doesn't come equipped with richer options and configuration settings. Nevertheless, it offers a straightforward solution for discovering the checksum type of any valid string of characters you specify.
