Encrypt and decrypt files on your computer to keep your private information safe, or lock entire folders with the help of this portable application. #Encrypt file #Folder encryption #Decrypt file #Encrypt #Ccrypt #Decrypt
The security of the computer data is extremely important to anyone. From a simple file that stores a project you might be working on to official private documents or the pages of a virtual diary you are keeping, you surely want it all kept secure and protected from prying eyes. Aiming to help you in this regard is Portable Qccrypt.
Designed as a no-install and cross-platform frontend for the ccrypt application, Portable Qccrypt makes it possible for you to encrypt and decrypt files and folders without having to deal with complicated settings. In fact, using it should not pose problems at all. The main window encloses two separate tabs with very specific roles: to encrypt and decrypt files, respectively.
The main window displays brief information about the selected file or folder, such as its size, the number of sub-folders, and the number of contained files). Having the application show the contents of the chosen folder would benefit Portable Qccrypt.
With Portable Qccrypt, you can encrypt (or decrypt) either a file or an entire folder. The latter option results in the encryption of all the files inside the chosen directory. Unfortunately, there are no settings to configure in this section, so you cannot add exceptions or filter the input file range, which would come in handy. Nevertheless, if the target file has already been encrypted, you can configure the algorithm to skip it.
The content of the original file can be optionally preserved but, as you can imagine, this poses a higher security risk. In this case, a new file is created and stored in the same location. Otherwise, the application overwrites the original file with the encrypted information, saving the file in the CPT format.
Portable Qccrypt lacks a few features that might make it a little more interesting. However, it does act as promised and allows you to encrypt private files or entire folders without effort.
Moreover, there is no need for you to go through a setup process, as the application is portable. That means you can run it directly from a USB drive if you want to, without leaving traces in the registry.
What's new in Portable Qccrypt 0.8.1:
- No need to enter the password twice when the "Show password" checkbox is checked.
- When you move your mouse over the path of the file/folder to encrypt/decrypt, a popup displays the full path (indeed, the field is sometimes too short to display the entire path).
- Code optimizations.
