SmartEncryptor

SmartEncryptor is a security application designed to password-protect files and folders, in order to restrict the access of other users. It comes packed with several handy options that can be easily figured out, even by users with less experience in such tools.

The setup procedure does not take a long time to finish. As far as the interface is concerned, SmartEncryptor adopts a normal window with a neatly organized structure. Two panels can be separately accessed to encrypt and decrypt files and folders, respectively.

Items can be added to the task list using either the file browser or drag-and-drop method. All you have to do is specify a password and confirm it, indicate a new file name and location, and click a button to encrypt it immediately.

The app does not add password protection to the original file but creates a new one instead. You have to be careful with the original items, since they can be normally accessed. In order to decrypt the files, it is only necessary to point out the file, new directory and password.

SmartEncryptor can be asked to automatically wipe the source files and create self-extracting files. You can select the encryption method between AES and Blowfish, create a shell extension in the Windows Explorer context menu to quickly encrypt files, as well as pick the file shredding method which ranges from 1 to 10 passes.

The tool has minimal impact on PC performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. There were no kind of issues in our tests because it did not hang, crash or pop up error messages.
