Windows suggests to secure your account with a password, so that not everyone has access to all of your files and settings. In case you want more, tougher security, there’s the possibility to use specialized applications like RSecure PC Lock, letting you keep almost every Windows feature under close watch.
The application takes little time to install, but the process itself is rather odd, covering your whole screen with a veil that can’t be breached until setup is done. What’s more, there’s no progress slider to let you know how much you have to wait, but a small prompt does appear when you can check out the set of features.
It’s recommended to save your work before installing and using the application, at least for the first time. Short-fused individuals might have a difficult time adapting to the application’s approach on security. This is because absolutely every action is followed by a message prompt, just as if there’s a constantly active dialog between you and the program, which quickly becomes frustrating.
The first requirement is a password, and it’s highly advisable to remember it, because only a few wrong attempts forcefully shuts down your PC, and if the application is set to automatically lock your desktop, or provide login protection, you might find yourself in a tough situation.
Most of the time is spent in the system tray, where you get to access all features through the dedicated menu. As such, you can activate several security features, for login, auto-activate, or process guardian, which prevents you from accessing the Task Manager, without any option to bypass this.
Several misc tools are at your disposal, such as the possibility to remove files on reboot, which comes in handy for locked files, monitor laptop battery power, password generator, or general system monitor. PC power options can also be triggered from the tray menu.
Taking everything into consideration, we can safely state that RSecure PC Lock manages to provide that extra safety layer you’re looking for, with quick access to its features through the tray icon. Although it can easily become frustrating because of the abundance of message prompts, at least it keeps predators at bay this way.
