PowerPoint Password is a small software application whose purpose is to help you recover lost of forgotten passwords from PowerPoint (PPT) files. It is important to mention from the beginning that the tool is able to retrieve only passwords used for opening documents. The program can be installed on all Windows versions out there.
The utility reveals a simple layout. It employs a wizard-like assistant that offers a step-by-step approach throughout the entire configuration process. PPT files can be imported in the working environment using the built-in browse button.
PowerPoint Password offers you the possibility to choose between an automatic and custom recovery mode. The automatic one can be enabled on the go without having to go through lengthy configuration settings.
If you opt for a user-defined process, you are allowed to specify the name of the recovery task and select between three recovery methods, namely Brute Force Attack, Smart Force Attack, and Dictionary.
The first mode can be tweaked by including or excluding letters, digits, common symbols, and all symbols in/from the recovery job. Plus, you can specify custom characters that are embedded in the password, set its length, and mention if lowercase, uppercase, or proper case characters are included in the passwords. The application is also able to estimate the time needed in order to complete the task.
The second one represents the advanced version of Brute Force Attack and allows you to check for password combinations that consist only of letters. The last method, Dictionary, is useful if you want to try every word from a dictionary as a password.
At the end of a recovery task, PowerPoint Password automatically reveals the password in a dedicated panel and copies it to the clipboard. It also lets you open the password-protected document.
Tests have pointed out that the application carries out a task quickly. However, the time needed to complete the job pretty much depends on the size and complexity of the password. A Brute Force Attack takes longer than other algorithms because it uses every possible character combination as a password.
In conclusion, PowerPoint Password comes packed with several handy methods for retrieving passwords from PPT files, and can be configured by rookies and professionals alike.
