Although the Internet is the main source of malicious applications, it's not the only threat to your system's integrity. You might think the application needs to be installed on the removable drive itself, but it actually gets deployed and works from your system. The main window is simple, but packed with all it needs, such as a list to display connected devices and associated controls.

Be sure to manually hit the “Refresh” button after plugging in any Flash drives, because the application cannot automatically detect them. Moreover, if you don't want to apply to more devices, you need to know the corresponding drive letter, with details not being displayed in the list.

Once a drive is detected, the status indicates its health, which can be unprotected, infected or secured. Sadly, if you happen to have an infected device the application takes no measures unless you initiate them, and it would have been useful to see at least a warning when attempting to open an infected drive.

In other words, it's completely up to you to decide whether or not drives are processed and cleaned. You can also choose to restore the volume to it's default form, in case you want to create custom Autorun.inf files and don't want to risk losing it.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Protect My Disk is not really what you'd expect from applications of this kind, leaving some degree of uncertainty even if the status indicates the drive is protected. What's more, your system is constantly at risk, with not even a warning if you try to open an infected drive.
