In the eventuality that you have been using the Internet for quite some time, then there is a high chance that you used your email address to register for all sorts of services and websites over time, some of which you completely forgot about.
Spybot Identity Monitor is a tool that enables you to find out if your personal information – email address, username or password used for registration – have been disclosed in a documented security breach.
The application comes with a user-friendly interface and includes a summary of the breached for your email addresses and usernames. You can get started by clicking on the big circle in the middle and then adding an email address or username to test for leaks. You can monitor multiple addresses using the program and find out the aforementioned data for each of your accounts.
Moreover, you can check out all the breaches' details by clicking on any of them, as the app provides a comprehensive list that includes the service, domain, acknowledged, data breach and information update. By accessing any of the items in the list, you can find out immediately what type of personal data was leaked, such as names, phone numbers, gender, physical address or date of birth, for instance.
If your data is compromised, then you should consider checking the Take Action section of the app, where you can find some valuable suggestions on how to handle the situation. As indicated, you can start by changing the password for the breached services as well as the others, just to be sure.
Other valuable suggestions include enabling the two-factor authentication and using a strong password. For the latter, Spybot Identity Monitor can lend you a hand, as it includes a password test that allows you to select a passkey that is not that easy to guess.
