K-Backup Suite

K-Backup Suite is a comprehensive solution for users that want extended backup support for their documents. The application features an (optional) server module, for increased protection.

Backing up data can be done in three ways: either locally, via a shared folder, or through the network. Most users will find the latter choices redundant, but for anyone that knows the shortcomings of having all your data on a single hard disk, storing documents on servers seems a good idea.

This is one of the nice features of this resource. It does a good job both at simple tasks (say if you want to backup a folder on the local disk), but also at advanced routines (for example, setting up a recurring network backup with file inclusions and exclusions).

Recurring backups are a very good feature, since they allow users to automate the whole process. Not only that, but tasks can be done either in full or incremental backups. Although not a function unique to this software, this can severely limit disk space usage.

Other functions that are available include: disk encryption and synchronization, as well as a “Job monitor”, which is a great method of keeping track of those recurring tasks.

The interface might seem a bit full at first the glance. There are multiple menus or tabs and each tab reveals several sub-tabs. A good workaround was found by grouping functions together.

For example, if you need to encrypt your disk, there is no conceivable reason to browse the backup options first. Users that spend a few minutes familiarizing themselves with the interface will actually find it quite pleasant and geared towards efficiency!

K-Backup Suite strikes a good balance between ease-of-use and actual protection. Newcomers will easily satisfy their common backup needs, while tech-savvy users will surely notice the more advanced features.
