Metadata Backup

Metadata Backup is a straightforward and easy-to-use application that enables you to create metadata backups for the Windows Media Player library by including ratings, play counts and any custom fields.

It comes packed with just a couple of backup and restore options that can be seamlessly configured, even by users with little or no previous experience in such software.

Setting it up takes little time and effort, since there are no special buttons displayed in the wizard. However, it depends on .NET Framework, so make sure you have this platform installed.

As far as the interface is concerned, Metadata Backup has a single window that reveals all options put at your disposal. You don't have to rely on multiple panels to carry out tasks easily.

It's possible to browse for a folder to back up or restore by resorting to the built-in tree view, include or exclude subfolders, as well as choose a metadata file (.xml format) to back up or restore information from.

The list of results displays all media items that were backed up. Apart from the fact that you can cancel an ongoing task if it takes too long or if you just change your mind, there are no other noteworthy options provided by this piece of software.

Backup and restore jobs were carried out fast in our tests, during which the application remained light on system resources consumption, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. It remained stable throughout its runtime, without triggering the operating system to hang, crash or indicate errors.

Although it doesn't have a particularly rich set of options and configuration settings, Metadata Backup offers a simple and straightforward solution for backing up and restoring contents from the Windows Media Player library.
