While Plex Media Server can back up the database, it doesn't include all the necessary files and settings needed to fully restore Plex in case of a system crash or when moving to a new computer.

The answer to this issue may be very simple, as PlexBackup is a script that offers a solution to the incomplete backup problem associated with Plex Media Server.

Considering the nature of the script, you need to run it as Administrator while logged under the same account you run Plex Media Server. The idea behind the script is to automatically generate backup snapshots with timestamps reflecting when each backup job started.

The snapshots are backups that you can configure to be compressed or uncompressed. The first compress essential folders into separate ZIP files, while the latter simply creates a mirror of the Plex application data folder without compression. You can decide on what works best for you based on how much disk space you have and whether you want the process to be done fast.

When saving data, the script notes the Plex Media Server version. If you try to load a backup on a system with a different Plex Media Server version, it won't work. To ignore this and continue anyway, use the NoVersion setting, but it might not be safe.

I feel the need to clarify that PlexBackup focuses on backing up essential Plex application data files, such as the Plex database, Windows registry key, and critical app data folders. However, it does not back up media files (videos, audios, images) or Plex program files.

If you are looking for a way to create backups for media files, you can store your media files on a RAID 5 disk array for redundancy and periodically back them up to another storage location, for instance.
