Second Chance

Your computer can get damaged at any moment, especially if you wander off through the dark corners of the Internet. Regardless of the case, it’s always a good idea to have an extra copy of important files and folders lying around, which is called a backup operation. This is exactly where specialized applications like Second Chance come in handy.

One particular advantage is portability, saving you some time and effort otherwise needed to go through a setup process. Moreover, it can easily be stored on a thumb drive in case you want to use it for backup operations on other computers than your own. Note, however, that it completely relies on .NET Framework to function.

As far as the visual design is concerned, the application stores all of its features in a pretty clean window, which doesn’t take much effort to figure out. There are several fields you need to fill in with the source locations of folders you want to back up, as well as a dedicated one for the destination.

Backup sessions are pretty straightforward, with the application merely creating a copy of the items of interest in a location of choice. There are no options to remove source files when done, or archive backups. However, the most disappointing aspect is the lack of a scheduler, which means you need to manually configure and start backup sessions.

It offers several popular locations by default, but you don’t necessarily have to include them in a session, and these items are the documents, pictures, music, and videos folders. There are up to six custom fields you can fill up with your own directories.

All things considered, we can state that Second Chance is a pretty straightforward backup tool overall. Sadly, it doesn’t come with any options to create schedules, or advanced configurations, but it does manage to get the job properly done.
