Windows comes with an embedded disk partitioning tool suggestively called DiskPart, a functionality that you can access via the command prompt or PowerShell. Microsoft DiskPart enables you to create run disk formatting and create partitions prior to installing Windows but, as most expert tools, it only runs in the command console.
DiskPart GUI Micro adds a GUI to Microsoft’s DiskPart tool, allowing you to run disk formatting from a more user-friendly environment.
Due to its main functionality, DiskPart GUI Micro requires administrative privileges to use. When run without elevated rights, the application might not be able to read data about the status of the connected disks. Keep in mind that DiskPart GUI Micro uses both the cmd.exe the diskpart.exe apps located in the System32 folder of Windows. Hence, their location must not be changed.
The main window is simple, displaying the DiskPart report, which includes the list of disks, their status, as well as the available and the free size of each. If the disk is a GPT one, you can also see in the report.
There are two different tabs in DiskPart GUI Micro: the Basic and the Advanced. The Basic tab enables you to select the disk to format from a drop-down list and proceed to configuring partitions and booting.
By pressing on the “Partitions” button, the application reports on the available partitions for the selected disk, revealing their type, size and offset. Both UEFi/GPT and BIOS/MBR boot modes are supported. Moreover, you can adjust the size of the recovery partition, should you choose to create one. In the Advanced mode, you can choose to erase all the data on the disk or convert it to GPT. DiskPart GUI Micro also allows you to create a dedicated Windows partition. For most situations, the settings in the Advanced tab don’t need to be changed.
DiskPart GUI Micro is a disk formatting and partition management tool, which means it must be used with precaution. It is highly recommended to go through the available documentation to make sure you understand what each function does and how DiskPart GUI Micro actually works.
