File Shredder

File Shredder is an advanced software utility you can use to permanently remove files and folders from the disk, without worrying that unauthorized users will get hold of these items using specialized products. It uses the US DOD (Department of Defense) 5220.22-M security algorithm when wiping data to ensure efficiently against data recovery tools.

The application gets installed fast and effortless, since there are no special options, software requirements, or third-party components bundled with the setup kit.

As for the interface, File Shredder adopts a normal window with a simple look and neatly structured layout, where you can get started by adding files and directories to the task list.

It's possible to add as many objects as you want to remove, thanks to the fact that batch processing is supported. Before proceeding with the task, you can adjust the shredder's length by increasing or decreasing the level of safety ranging from 3 (minimal protection, yet very quick) to 28 (maximum destruction, yet very slow).

Apart from the fact that you can delete any entry from the list if you change your mind, there are no other notable options provided by this software program.

We haven't experienced any stability issues in our tests, since the tool didn't freeze, crash or prompt error messages. It left a small footprint on system resources consumption, running on a low amount of CPU and memory. Tasks were carried out swiftly.

On the other hand, File Shredder hasn't been updated for a pretty long time and doesn't seem to be in development anymore. Nevertheless, it can still be downloaded from Softpedia and used with the limitations specified on this page. We haven't come across compatibility problems with newer Windows models.
