Give a single file multiple names, just like you would normally do in Unix, using straightforward commands via this CLI application. #Hard link creator #Create link #Symbolic link #Symlink #Hard link #NTFS
FileLink is a utility designed to help you give a single file multiple names or, how advanced users put it, creates a Hard Link to an existing file. File linking is a process specific to Linux or Unix and entails that a single file is referred to by various names from different locations. They can be interpreted as shortcuts or pointers that enable you to access the same file content from distinct folders.
The idea behind Hard Links is that they don't know about any original files and hence, behaves as if it does not exist. While it can be argued that you could very well create copies for the file, the truth is that Hard Links come with numerous advantages.
For starters, if you delete the original file by mistake, this does not affect the link in any aware and the content can still be accessed. You do not need to use any separate inode as it is already shared between the link and file.
A further noteworthy benefit is that Hard Links solely consume the space once, unlike copies who have the same size as the original file. As a consequence, you do not need to worry about running low on space on your hard drive.
