If you are like me, then your smartphone is notifying you about the reduced storage space a bit too often, as the device is bloated with photos. Unloading the photos on the computer’s hardware is necessary, and, at this point, a dilemma occurs: how to keep them organized?

The developer of FileMove comes with a quick solution to this issue, one that might cater to anyone who takes a lot of photos and does not have the time to sort them manually.

With a reduced footprint on the local computer, FileMove does not require installation and, to keep it even simpler, does not feature an actual user interface.   While some of you might raise an eyebrow reading this, the lack of a GUI is actually beneficial in this case. FileMove only has a single purpose: extracting the creation date of the photos in a folder and have them all organized based on this criterion.

To use FileMove, simply place it in a folder where all your photos are stored and double click on the main executable.

Almost in an instant, FileMove creates multiple directories, naming each according to the creation dates of the photos. Not only that it practically generates all these categories, but it also moves all the photos in the corresponding folder. In other words, all your pictures will be sorted and categorized with just a few clicks. You can then rename the directories with a relevant name to know what their contents are about.

On the downside, FileMove does not allow you to use another criterion to organize photos. Not that it is not useful, on the contrary, but, frankly, this is a solution for desperate situations when you need to sort an overwhelming number of pictures.

FileMove is one of those “tweaks” you can apply when you are not willing to take the time to organize content manually. The idea is good, and the execution is quick, so it is worth a try if you are dealing with a significant number of images that need organizing.
